LAS VEGAS, NV - 2046 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Phil Doyle was forced to return his bracelet and $20 million in winnings after it was revealed he had been using the aid of artificial intelligence throughout the tournament. People with a brain-computer interface (BCI) implant are banned from competing in the WSOP Main Event, as humans stand no chance of beating AI at Texas Hold ’Em. Since 2040 there have been separate poker tournaments reserved for cyborgs.
All players at human-only WSOP events are screened by X-rays and metal detectors prior to sitting at the table. However, Doyle found a way around the security measures. He had a cyborg accomplice in the crowd with a Neuralink implant, and they would flash elaborate facial signals and hand gestures back and forth to convey information.
Doyle’s BCI-enhanced accomplice used an AI poker solver, trained by deep learning algorithms that simulated billions of possible Texas Hold ‘Em hands to determine the game theory optimal decision for every possible situation. On top of that, Neuralink uses cameras and sensors to study human facial expressions, eye movements, biomarkers, and any visual tells from the other players at the table to discern strength from bluffs. AI can also detect fingerprints, heat signatures, and slight blemishes on the cards to identify its probable rank and suit.
Using these techniques, AI-assisted players have become so proficient at poker that humans cannot compete. They say it is like playing against someone who can see your hole cards. The AI calls your every bluff, and when you call their bet, they always have the winning hand.
Phil Doyle has been banned from participating in any future WSOP events (human or cyborg), and casinos will be implementing tighter security measures to prevent AI cheaters in the future. They plan to use AI to help catch players using AI.
